Ingredients

  • 2 large apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour For coating the apple slices
  • 2 large eggs Beaten, to help the crumbs stick
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Or regular breadcrumbs for extra crunch
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon Adds warmth and flavor to the fries
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Sweetens up the apple fries nicely
  • Cooking spray To ensure they crisp up perfectly in the air fryer
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce Optional dipping sauce for added sweetness
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt A lighter option for dipping if desired

Method

  1. Peel the apples if desired and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick. Remove the core and seeds from each wedge carefully to ensure safety while enjoying your treat. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar, setting this aside for later use.
  2. In order to create an efficient breading process, place the all-purpose flour in one bowl, beat the eggs in another bowl, and fill a third bowl with panko breadcrumbs. Add half of your previously mixed cinnamon-sugar mixture into the breadcrumbs and stir well to incorporate those delightful flavors throughout.
  3. Begin by dredging each apple slice in flour, ensuring you shake off any excess before moving on to the next step. Dip each floured slice into the beaten eggs thoroughly so that it's completely coated before pressing it firmly into the breadcrumb mixture, giving it an even coating of crumbs.
  4. Preheat your air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for about three minutes while you arrange your breaded apple slices in a single layer within the air fryer basket. Lightly spray each slice with cooking spray to promote crispiness as they cook, then air fry them for eight to ten minutes—flipping halfway through until they achieve a golden brown color.
  5. Once cooked perfectly golden brown, sprinkle your remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over hot apple fries for an additional touch of sweetness and flavor enhancement. Serve these warm delights immediately alongside caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping!
